  • Do you have space to make it larger?

Can you double stack the washer/dryer?

Can you put shelving above the appliances?

Can you put a "tabletop" across the appliances in order to use it for sorting and folding?

If you can't tear down walls to make this larger, the next thing to do is to ask yourself how you can best utilize the space?

Visually: paint the walls a bright semi-gloss white. You can install wire racks for storage with a pole for hanging damp items. If you don't need the doors, remove them. Or, paint them semi gloss white as well. A bright light would help. Best of luck.

Expanding into available adjoining space would make the area larger. However, if you are looking for better use of the space you have, there is quite a bit of vertical space above the appliance in your picture. Cupboards. shelves, a hanging rod can make a world of difference. Here is a link for ideas:

Is there a room behind the wall? So you could cut through and maybe even turn the machines around and use this side for a closet/bookshelf? So the machines would actually be in another room? From the picture, it doesn't look deep enough for the machine. The molding around it is beautiful, at least in the picture, so I would want to keep that. [i suggest turning the machines around because i am guessing the plumbing is already there, and why move it?]

My sister Suz had the same problem & we used most of the excellent suggestions already mentioned. Since she had no options for tweaking the placement of the appliances we replaced the doors with a beautiful fabric curtain with beaded trim at the top & bottom and hung with a sturdy tension rod. Wide open for laundry day, closed and classy otherwise, the glitzy beads distracted the eye from the belly-budge appliances. Good luck!
