No, bamboo flooring is not nearly as hard as we expected . . . it dents with surprising ease and a large dog hitting the floor with a toenail while enthusiastically scratching would undoubtedly maul the floor. A good oak floor is far more durable, though the bamboo is probably at least as tough as pine, spruce, or fir. We adore our bamboo floor, but learned the hard way that it needs care to avoid dents (not scratches, but real dents).
Gee i recommended it to my client and he had 7000 sq. ft installed with a huge 100 lb labrador retriever and a 160 lb great pyrenee both with nails of steel and after several years not one scratch or dent.
Again, it is the type of Bamboo that makes the difference. I did not do my homework and now have scratches and dents on my floor. The toenails of my dogs did not have an effect. But other things like recliners and/or tables being moved around will put scratches on a regular Bamboo floor. Strand is much hardier. Best of Luck !
