Apply Moss out from Scotts
Moss is a living thing, so permanent might not work. However People swear by using boiling water to kill them. Here’s a link that gives you more options, too. All cheap and pretty much home made.

I use Lily Miller Moss Out granules and apply with a spreader, they also make liquid in a hose attachment. Rake out the dead stuff when it turns black, Reapply when needed. Keep the lawn aerated and the thatch raked up from the mower so hold it doesn't hold moisture.
Any of the products recommended work, but as Sharon said - rake out the dead stuff and be on top of reapplication.
