Have you had your soil tested? there may be to much acid which will kill the plants if the correct specimens were not planted

I would contact your local Ag Extension for localized assistance and have your soil tested so you know how to amend it for future success.
pine and cedar have roots that will secrete a substance to kill off the "competition" the dropped needles will also acidify the soil. i went with container gardening for those reasons.
if ya don't have enough bee's build a bee hive, that may help

Thank you! We do have a 24 foot greenhouse on the property and could do more container gardening in there. We just put in a mini split for heating and cooling so this is feasible. Good advice!
