How to make bath counter top look like granite

I have a double sink, contractor grade (think 1995) bath counter top that is sorta a dingy yellowish color and I want it to look like granite. I cannot take off the faucets by myself so was hoping to find a way to paint rather than use a contact paper.

Tape off the faucets to protect their finish as well as the sinks themselves. Remove the gloss from the countertop and apply a base coat of paint made to Tapepaint made to stick to the formica.

Here are instructions on faux painting granite:

I did this many years ago in my kitchen. I found that using top quality base paint was key. It came out so well that when I sold the house, buyers all thought it was real granite! Have fun!

iDon't worry! It will be fine! You can practice on something small to get the hang of it. Even just a piece of wood.

Because this is just sponge painting, blobbing on colors, etc. it will become just a fun thing for you. Just do one color at a time and leave it to dry. As you go along, you'll see how it builds up and where you need other colors.

If you end up with an area you don't like, you can always put on the base coat and start again lol!

Is your counter cultured marble? If so, paint doesn't stick to it very well. You will need to sand it well to remove the gloss, and use a high-adhesion primer which sticks to plastic. Trust me on this one, it will peel in no time if you don't.

I have one and am thinking of bringing these guys in to resurface it, since my sink is part of it. They say they can successfully resurface cultured marble. Not many companies can say that.

Oh good! I have painted a few laminate countertops, and they hold up quite well. If it wasn't for my integrated sink, I would have done my cultured marble one eons ago.

I saw a MM testimonial, given by a local celebrity a few years back, so I e-mailed the person and was told it was great, and that was about 4 or 5 years after installation.

You can use those little bottles of craft paint and sponge on to your heart's content! Find a sample granite pattern that you like and buy the same (or as close to) colors to mimic on your counter. just make sure you seal it with something waterproof for protection.
