Millions of farmers ask the same question, Jeanne. Nut grass is technically a "sedge" and Roundup doesn't do a very good job on it. However, it might be worth a try in a small area and it should be safe to grow veggies after. Read the information on the container of anything you use VERY carefully. If you continue to pull it, be sure not to scatter the seeds as you do it. Try carefully placing a plastic bag over the heads, grasping the bag at the bottom, then pulling. I would suggest a call to your local university extension office or a good garden center, too. They often have an expert on staff or can put you in touch with one. Good luck, it's a tough weed to defeat.
This Nut sedge is with bulb. If you have a small area underneath a bush, as a red tip or crepe myrtle.....you gotta pull it out. I'm talkin' a small patch. I've had to do this with wild onions. ANY plant that has a bulb.
KIlled it back with an Ortho spray, Took a while to die back, and I still had to dig it up to totally (I hope) get rid of it
smothering is best
