They should be moist at all times.If they feel try to the touch water them
It depends on how much drainage you have. They do not require a lot of watering. If you have adequate drainage, and they are not outside in the rain, then I water mine once a week. Outside I water less and only when it hasn't rained.
For most potted plants, stick your finger into the soil about an inch. If it feels dry, water them. Pretty easy, huh?

They may be root bound and you may need to re pot them. Bought some gorgeous mums last year from Sam's Club but they did not last long so I did some research on it. This year I will buy smaller mums and re pot in the larger pots.
Usually for this time of the year, I water mine about once week. I touch the soil to check for dryness. 🍁
