A fireplace odor usually indicate a backdraft from the chimney... is the damper closed?
Also, wash down its surronding area with a vinegar solution.. reduces smoky odor.
Empty all the ashes out and any creosote you can reach. Use something like Lysol Disinfectant or Febreeze Extra Strength. Burn aromatic candles in the fireplace, with a tray to catch candle wax. 😇💖
Washing with vinegar should help!
