Hi Grima, yes it is a Bromeliad and it can survive in cold weather, but not freezing . It likes shade and water it in the centre of the crown. Always have water in there. Can keep it indoors no problem. They also have great flowers, unusual ones and different plants have different type of flowers.

These plants lift up their “cups” to the rain to catch it there. The thecwater slowly goes out to the green leaves and last to the roots, which are not as deep as many other plants. Some species actually grow out of wounds and rot on trees’ trunks. I’m sure each different type has a name, but the the nursery, they are often all displayed together under “Bromeliads”. 😇🍁

It's a beautiful specimen. They like hot humid conditions, as in rain forests. How about keeping it in a warm bathroom with indirect light.

I had many in the garden in a mild climate, but disposed of them all as the cups retained water and bred millions of mosquitoes!

wow! Mosquitoes like the plant, yuk!!

Mosquitoes lay eggs in water, in Bromeliad's case, perhaps in the water in the centre of the plant. They are not attracted to the plant itself. Keeping the plant indoors wll mean no problem with mosquitoes since they can't get at it, but I put mine outside during the warm months without hords of mosquitoes appearing. Be not afraid!!

A Bromeliad is an air plant originating from the Tropics & Central America. Air Plants live on the moisture in the air, direct sun will burn the blades. It should do very well in your bathroom window, preferably facing north. Periodically wipe the blades with a moist tissue which will allow. The dry heat from central air conditioning will slowly dry it out, so be aware of the temperature of your home. During the summer months you may place it outside in a shaded atmosphere.

It does prefer warmer climate . Water from the top centre leafs at the red part. Keep it indoors near a window but not direct sunlight . It will do well
