Do you have earwigs? They demolished my basil.
Aphids leave a sticky residue. You should be able to see them on the under sides of the leaves. Spraying soapy water under the leaves will kill them while washing away the stickiness. You can add a a few drops of citrus and/or peppermint oil to soapy water. Then keep and eye on the under leaves and repeat as needed.

Avocado Heaven
Put your plant in the shower. Spray it down with dish soap mixed with water. Let it stay that way for at least an hour. Then spray it off with clear water.
