Serve buffet style and let them sit in the kitchen, den, living room, dining room, have folding chairs available
Buffet--TV tables-extra folding tables in other space.
I'd have a buffet. Group your seating so people can talk.
Buffett style for sure. Keep it simple. Casseroles and 1 or 2 main meat items. Borrow folding tables &chairs if you can . If weather is decent you can on to patio.
If it's family have them bring stuff, keep you from doing it all.
Have fun
do you have a dinning room by itself or does it open into the kitchen and or living room? I held a party in a town house, i did buffet style serving you could have them sit in your living room, using a table and chairs or the couch and a table.
Buffet style. Don’t worry about it. People will mill around, eat standing or leaning.
The people will get a spot and just enjoy everyone. Standing encourages moving around. ENJOY
I would not do seating with plates on laps. Thanksgiving is a very special meal and people need to be comfortable while eating it. If necessary and you have help, move all furniture out of say living room into a bedroom or porch. Have tables that are either long or angled or five small ones (like card tables) you have a table that seats 6 comfortably so that leaves only four other small ones. This is a pic of wedding tables we saw recently. There were two rows. People served themselves buffet style (but there was assistance) People can just sit at tables to visit. After all if you go to a restaurant you don't do other than sit at a table.
I would move some of the furniture pieces that won't be used for eating or serving food, and tuck them away in a bedroom.... use the space for extra folding chair and tables. push bulky pieces into corners and use bulky chairs for less mobile family members(with a tray table) or as places for purses, hats, etc.. or stage drinks there.. and not in the kitchen. use them for drink set up. (our Lowe's has some collapsible tables, that will seat 8-10, for about $50, and you can tuck under a spare bed for storage.
Use your ottomans and coffe tables for limber and unless you people. Card tables seat 4 but can wobble. Can some stand in the kitchen and eat from the countertops? Don't set the table but serve buffet style, letting people decide where to eat. This keeps it casual and less stressful on you.
For cooking and serving, I have used my ironing board for an extra surface in a small space.
