There have been times when I want some Christmas decor, but I do not want to give up a vase or drinking glass or bottle for something I am going to have on display for 6 weeks of the year.

I volunteer with a lot of people on severely small incomes and this is one we do every Christmas, because even though it generally costs nothing, it looks great!

This one is easy.

What you need:
-Glass vessel of any kind (vase, bottle, glass, i guess even plastic) It can be coloured glass.
-Paper
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Spray adhesive of clear school glue
-Toothpaste
-Cotton ball (you can also use a round brush)

I have 3 of these square galls vases that I have plan, but I wanted a pretty votive type candle holder NOW!

I got these on sale for $1.75 each but you do not have to buy anything to do this.
I drew stars all over a piece of paper I suck at drawing even stars so these are guidelines for me.
Fold the paper in half.
Cut out the stars. I only folded this paper in half but the next one, I folded in 4.
Stars!
When you have all the stars you want, get your glue. I had no clear school glue so I used spray adhesive squired into a old container.
Dab a SMALL dot of glue on each star
Stick them on the glass. If you are going around a corner, but a teeny bit on the arm of the star
Put toothpaste on a plate or lid. I used sensodyne, but any toothpaste works and sensodyne is the SLOWEST on to dry. I just only have this kind.
dab the cotton ball or round brush into the toothpaste and start pouncing it onto the glass - gently so not to disturb the stars.
Cover the whole vase, for the first 2 sides you can lay it down the rest it has t be upright as the toothpaste will not be dry.
A round brush can be used to apply the toothpaste the same way.
Do the top edge. This can also be done after you remove the stars.
If you have nails, its easy to remove the stars as only the center is glued down.
Or you can use a knife or other sharp object.
It takes about 3 hours to dry (4 for Sensodyne).

It can be sprayed with hairspray if you are afraid little fingers might pick it off.

They look great and can be cleaned and used again after Christmas, where if you want to tint your toothpaste red, you can do it for valentines day with hearts!

I did not have a tea light handy, so here it is unlit.

Merry, Christmas, Happy Holidays!

Looks amazing - but how will the toothpaste stay on? Won't it brush off when dried?

Your vase looks amazing! Does it smell like minty candy canes too?
