I would like to know how to get rid those pesty little sink/drain flies. I've tried baking soda and vinegar, drain cleaners and put plastic over the drains.
A little what? Mold? Mold grows way before you see it. I wouldn't.
If you have to ask if it should be used, 9 times out of 10 the answer is NO! Don,t risk getting sick.
Not sure exactly what you are describing but I'm guessing it's mold? I would not. Mold will have penetrated further than you can see in the liquid and there is also the possibility that other less benign changes have gone on. You don't want to risk food poisoning.
Moldy cheese? Yes. Moldy fruit or veg? Nah
Hi Mary. Does it look like butter? I know some homemade jams and jellies have a thin coat of butter that comes to the surface after it has cooled. The butter is used to reduce the foam.
How old is this stuff?
My grandmother, who would have been around 150 by now, would have skimmed off the top and used it. I’ve seen her doing that with jams and jellies. No one in her family ever died from food poisoning. But there is no record of how many cases of stomach ache, diarrhea, and “stomach flu” occurred. Maybe none, maybe several. You could try the pie yourself. But I wouldn’t. 😇
Probably. Take it off and taste.
NO! Back in the day, people would have scraped off the top layer and eaten the rest, but modern research shows it's not as safe as grandma might have thought. The mold mycotoxins can infiltrate the entire jar. Some mycotoxins are known to cause cancer in animals; their effects on humans are still being researched.
It's absolutely not worth your health to consume contaminated food.
My motto is: If in doubt throw it out. Better to be safe than sorry.
