This is an excellent way to take advantage of unclaimed space for storage and be decorative.
Make some shelves from an item from the dollar store as shown by another Hometalk member. BW, she calls them spice racks. I think they would be great for many other items. Wishing you the best.

I have shelves over windows and doors in my house - love them! I get my brackets at Hobby Lobby and the wood is either barn wood or bought at Home Depot. Here's one over my sliding glass doors in the kitchen.
