How can I protect the window sill in my shower?
I have a window located inside my shower. Is there a way to protect the sill from water damage?
Caulk well around the inside of the entire window. Replace any wood trim it may have with tile.
Also use a shower liner curtain that you cut down. And prop open to dry bathroom steam out. My aunt had hers made into a block window with an opening with a screen and so she can open it up as needed plus handy if it also serves as a powder room for obvious reasons.
Just like you do around your tub, lay a bead of silicone around the outer edge of the window. If there is a sill under the window do that too. If the window doesn't open, silicone anywhere you think water could possible get in.
Hi Rosemary. You will want to caulk the window.
when you use calk, make sure you use a calk that’s not water soluable, the calk that cleans up easily with water won’t hold up long if it gets wet. Trust me, I have learned the hard way having to recalk in my shower before!
I hope your window doesn’t get much water in it? Calk will meldew if it gets wet very much? Without seeing your shower area it’s hard to advice you what’s best to do? In some cases I have used plastic laminate contact cemented around my window seals to protect the wood from getting wet. Just as they do a premoulded plastic laminated shower stall!
Thanks to you all for your good ideas. I'll be happy to investigate it further and consider your solutions, perhaps use several together. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Put an extra rod on the side where the window is, and hang a curtain, to keep the water off the walls.
