I have taken a basil plant that is just like the one in your picture and planted it in a bigger pot - grows like crazy on the windowsill! I've never planted garlic, but it's on my 'to-do' list!

Good luck!
All you need to grow garlic indoors is one good garlic head. Put the potting soil in a large container, break garlic cloves apart and sow every clove vertically into the soil at a depth of approximately 1 inch.
Cover all of the cloves with approximately 1 inch of soil. Place the pot in an area with plenty of direct sunlight.Clip the greens off when the reach about 3 – 4 inches of height, leaving about an inch. With time the greens will stop growing. When it dries up and turns brown, dig the clove of garlic out of the soil and you should have a full bulb. Take a clove from that one and start over!
thanks to all for your great advice!!
I brought my nice basil plant inside for the winter but being away over Xmas did not work too well for it. Plus we have had sub zero temperatures and not too much sun. I bought another small plant at the supermarket and just set it in the bigger space with the struggling basil. So far so good for both of them.
