depends on you projects.Go to garage sales and thrift stores.
It really depends on the DIY's you want to tackle. I have a basic tool set (hammer, screw drivers, an electric drill, wrench, pliers, staple gun), a variety of screws and nails, different types of sandpaper, tapes and glues. I also keep different paints (spray paints, acrylic, chalk) and cleaning items. Lots of rags too.
I try and use as much stuff I have on hand, the paint etc, can be purchased and kept for other projects
When you choose a project to do...just take your time...tell family and friends what you are wanting....trade around project stuff...It is amazing what you can trade around with and for! Look in garages and sheds! Check out the basement. I'm sure there are somethings you have forgotten about!
Have fun....
Spackle! It really depends on the type of work you do.. woodwork? metal? wire? glass?but don't always buy your wet supplies in big quantities. If it sits around and dries out, then you're out that money. Also,if a big jug/bottle/can of something liquid gets accidentally contaminated, or spilled then you have to replace the whole thing.Buy small, buy fresh. Also, make the difference in your mind between supplies and equipment. Supplies are the things you use and run out of, like a box of nails Equipment is things like tools, like a hammer,which-hopefully- you only buy one of and have for a long time. For basics, I'd get a claw hammer, couple of sizes of Phillips screwdrivers (they look like the +sign) and a couple sizes of slotted screwdrivers. Needlenose pliers and maybe one other type of pliers, adjustable wrench, measuring tape, and a bag to carry them all in. Then just add to your "kit" as you need to. It's silly to buy a whole bunch of expensive tools at the beginning when you don't know if you'll use them. After you're comfy with handtools, you can move to power tools, but make sure you understand how to use them and use goggles, gloves etc.!Let me know how you do!
depends on the project you have in mind, and what you have on hand. You collect prospective material as you find them.
It all depends upon what you are wanting to repurpose, and how.
