I would love to have this in my home. Just enjoy it.
I saw on Pinterest someone lightly whitewashed it... I was shocked at first. It really came out great with a rustic mantle running the width of the fireplace. She simply added water to off-white latex and rolled it on. Bottom to top, cleaned first.

I think it looks nice IF you can see in the mirror.
We had something similar in our last home. It was so big that it overtook the whole room. To me, it was an eyesore. I didn't know what to do with it. I had some contractors come and look at it and some said that they could tear it down and build something else, others said that they could build something on top of it. ( it would stick out from the wall more) It was much too hard to paint it as it was stone, not brick. Good luck!
Yours is beautiful, maybe just a cool fireplace screen
Tall photo frames, tall vases, and symmetry. I love that fireplace!
Your fireplace is lovely. Maybe you can try using more decorative pieces and some color. How about some tall candlesticks with colored pillar candles, drop your mirror down on the mantle and add a pop of color hanging on your mirror. Maybe add a brightly colored standing initial on your hearthstone to pull the height together. I attached a pic of mine, it is only about 12 ft, but I love it. I clean the stone and change it up when warm weather approaches. As you can see, we use ours for heat. I would love to help you decorate your fireplace area. Hope this helps.
A large painting that takes up a larger space than the current mirror, or a mirror that is more of a visual focus may be a good start if putting a tv up there is not an option!
A beautiful stone fireplace! You could actually put reclaimed wood from the top down to the mantel horizontally, or vertically, then use a railroad tie as your mantel. I would somehow try to frame the fireplace opening to make it look
a little bigger, perhaps with some type of metal. Maybe hang a round mirror close down to the mantel and decorate it with some nice candlesticks in glass globes on each side of the mirror on the mantel.
I love the fireplace and your right you need x-large decorative scale mirror with multi size candle sticks for the size of your fireplac, the brick is lovely and no need to change that but I would paint the shelf mantle only in black satin. The bottom add lanterns. Check kirklands and download there spin to win app for cash off your purchase, hobby lobby and home goods are another place for great ideas and budget friendly decor.
Start with A clean slate, take everything off , also anything around it not interfering with the focal point of the fireplace. White wash it. But dust well before you apply anything. If you are not familiar with white wash, don't worry. Any white Primer will do magic. YOU CANNOT FAIL WITH THIS AS, YOU TEND TO LEAVE THE IMPERFECTIONS ON THIS PROJECT. BEST WHITE WASH WITHOUT THE MESS IS KIDS. LET THE KIDS DO IT, TRUST ME THE STORIES LAST FOREVER BUT THE AFFECT IS MUCH BETTEE THAN MOST PROFESSIONALS. OR JUST STICK TO YER GINS AND PAINT ALL THECWAY UP. ONCE FINISHED. GOFOR ONE LARGE STATEMENT PIECE. GO BIG. GARAGE SALES ARE YER BEST FRIEND. IVE HAD A FRIEND THAT LOVED GIRAFFS. SO I BOUGHT A 15FT WOODEN GIRAFF. PROPPED IT UP, ALONG WITH 3_6 DIFFERENT HEIGHT GIRAFFS FOR THE MANTLE. FEW SAFARI LARGE PILLAR CANDLES. DO NOT CENTER PIECE ANYTHING. FIND SOMETHING YOU like or collect. But think monet, ansel adams, or that deformed sculpture you see everywhere and catch yerself, God that's hideous.... that is yer structural piece for resigning your fireplace piece. It might not happen today but when you catch yerself saying that. Buy it and design around it. But start with white primer,, have fun and when shopping "think hideous" garage sales, flea markets are a haven for items that may be worth thousands and thousands of dollars" have fun...
