I don't have a lot of money to spend on DIY projects throughout my home, so when I need to brighten things up, I paint. It is THE best DIY tool you have in your toolbox. See how I turned a drab kitchen into a show place with only one tool- paint!
Here we go!
I loved this teal color in our kitchen for many years. In fact, we painted it this color when we first moved into our home in 2005. But after looking at it for many years, we realized that we needed a lighter color in here.
We have lots of great natural light in our kitchen but the paint was too dark for our taste. So we decided to paint it to bring this kitchen to life again.
We also wanted to create a focal wall in our kitchen using the sliding glass door wall as the focal. We love the natural light and wanted the eye to be drawn to that. The best way to do that is to paint a wall a different color than the rest of the room.
First, we painted the focal wall Offbeat Green by Sherwin Williams.

Tip- If you don't have a lot of money to spend, get a swatch from the big name paint brands and take them to your local home improvement store but use a less expensive paint brand! That has saved us thousands of dollars over the past 15 years.
We painted the rest of the kitchen in Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. We didn't use Ben Moore paint, but rather took the swatch to the home improvement store and used Behr paint. Also, we didn't have time to prime, so we bought a paint with primer in the mix to save time AND money!
No one said painting was pretty! Instead of moving almost everything out of the kitchen, I placed it on our table and threw a drop cloth (not shown) over it!
The finished product makes me smile! We have had this paint color up for over five years and still adore it to this day! Create a focal wall in your home to break up a room, feature an architectural detail or just to shake it up a bit. You won't regret it!
