Keeping the Dog out of the Kitchen Trash Can?

Any ideas on how to keep my inside dog out of the kitchen trash can? She has figured out how to lift the lid with her nose and eat trash....

I spray ammonia or diluted lysol, or any spray I have handy. My dog stopped sniffing the trash!
you need a new can
I sprayed PineSol, put a huge telephone book on top of the can, and finally started using the sink garbage disposal. I still rinse all meat trays thoroughly before I put them in the trash, and I don’t even have a dog now. ☺️
I did try Lysol, but it does not faze her.... She just knows that there is stuff in there that she wants...

If you have a garbage can with a lid that swings back and forth that should solve the problem. It did for me at least. I had a dog that loved to get used Q-tips out of the garbage.
