A cheaper and easier answer. Attach a smaller molding about 2 inches above and parallel to the baseboard. Paint the new molding and the space between the new and old moldings the same color as the baseboard. Works well for making crown moldings look wider, as well. I do theatre sets, and it works like a charm.
I saw a post that showed adding picture frame molding (or a thinner type of decorative molding maybe 1 inch wide) to the wall 1 or 2 inches above existing molding. You paint the molding first, nail and/or glue to wall, patch nail holes. Then you paint all--molding, wall and baseboard. The end result looks like wide molding. Here is the link:
