I would start with the furniture and accessories and paint your treasured pieces with coastal colors caulk paint. If you have wood built-ins,such as bookcases, you could then paint them white or light gray and paint the back behind the shelves with your favorite coastal pastel color. Your upholstered pieces will look totally different with white/light slip covers until you can get them recovered. After you have changed your furniture and upholstery, you can then take stock of your home and see if you think painting the walls is necessary.
You can paint your wood to match the coastal theme, and add some accents as well. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/make-faux-wood-whale-art-7267217
Make Faux Wood Whale Art
Think long and hard about painting heirlooms and thing of beauty. No everything has to be the same style or colourings. You could just end up looking like a Theme Park and after a few year get fed up with it and want a change, by then it will be too late for your lovely pieces. My advice would be to change your walls. Wall paper or Panel or both. A blend of old and new dark and light soft and rough all make a home comfortable and welcoming...... Be brave and go with your heart........ I live on the coast myself, but my home reflects me not just where I live...........
Pick one piece and whitewash it. If you like it, move forward. If not, start over.
I would leave the heirlooms alone. Go with paint on your walls. Use accessories to carry on the beach theme.
Thank you very much
