I have fruit flies and can't get rid of them. I don't even have any food or fruit out.
Hello! Have you tried setting a trap for them using a bottle with something sweet at the base and then cover it with cellophane wrap with a small hole poked in the top of the cellophane? This allows the fruit flies to enter the bottle, but they will have a very difficult time — if at all — of leaving the bottle. Before long you’ll have a bottle full of fruit flies. Of course, be sure to dispose of any old fruit that you may have lying around. For instance, I like my fruit in the refrigerator, but my husband likes his fruit at room temperature and therefore we have fruit that sits out as well. Just don’t let it get too old because that’s what draws those fruit flies. Click on the link below to check out a photo of the trap. Good luck!

Well I am curious why that didn’t work..just a couple of drops of dish soap to break up the top of the cider vinegar. A surfactant... maybe they are a different insect, not real fruit flies? I wish grocery stores would place dishes of cider vinegar around their produce!
Hi V, You need to contact the Fruit Flye hot line, for you country or council area. I live in Australia. At the moment our state is Frut Fly free, but somehow they got through. My council area, is now @ quarantine and eradicated area, due to this. No fruit can be taken out of any property, during this period. All friut must be handled, and cooked in a certain way. The Fruit Fly people, have special ways of dealing with this! Your bext option is to ring your local council, or country's authority, in matters like this. It's best not to take any chances, especially with one's health. Kind re gards from Kay Adelaide Australia ☺
I can't insult brand name products but I found that one specific brand of bananas always brought in fruit flies. I always buy DelMonte now with no problems.
Also, if you don't have a garbage disposal, wrap all food in plastic wrap before throwing away to keep the bugs from accessing it.
Also, you might check for any water leaks under your cabinets. Just tiny leaks can cause wood to rotate and fruit flues LOVE rotting wood.
Check to see what is causing the fruit flies. It's usually overripe fruit. Make sure there is no food or fruit in the open in the kitchen (refrigerate it all). Clean your counters and everything on them with a diluted bleach water in a spray bottle. If they have nothing to feed on - they will go away.
Do you have any plants in the house????
Here's a tutorial I wrote that might help you - https://chascrazycreations.com/diy-bug-repellents-traps/
Fill a microwave-safe bowl with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Microwave the bowl so the mixture becomes even more aromatic. Leave the bowl out uncovered as fruit fly bait. The soap will reduce the surface tension, causing any fruit fly that lands on the surface to drown.
