white vi gear and water 50/50 a dab dish soap and salt
I use PREEN or a similar type of pre-emergent. I know it is a chemical, but it is the only thing that kept the weeds from my gravel path. It is expensive, but you only have to use it every 3 or 4 months.
Vinegar! Just spray it when they appear. Boiling water works well too.
Give vinegar a try.
Vinegar, awn and a little salt
Boiling hot water and vinegar
I use Preen in my gardens after I pull all the weeds I can. It will keep away the seed born weeds, but you will still have to pull the root born weeds or use the suggested vinegar or boiling water on them. I usually pull the root born ones outside the path by six inches, that way you can catch them when they are small and just getting into the pathway or garden. The Preen Weed Preventer really does work, and for how much you use in the season, it is worth it. It isn't any more expensive than fertilizer for the gardens. I usually get the big bucket and it lasts me a few seasons, even with all the garden areas I cover each spring.
There are a couple of things you could do and one is easier than the other, both safe. First you could rake the gravel in small long areas and put down weed cloth, replace the gravel back over the weed killer and do the next area the same. OR you could use a non chemical safe weed killer (which is very inexpensive) and environmentally safe. It kills every plant it is put on. Here is the recipe: 1 gallon white vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salts, 1/3 cup Dawn dish soap (blue kind). Spray it when all the dew is evaporated and let the sun do its work. By night fall the weeds will be dead. I hope your walk way has lots of sunlight, that really helps the solution to work. Good luck on it and let us know how it works!
If you're sure you never want to grow anything there again, salt. My aunt's lawn had a permanent "no grass zone" where someone emptied an ice cream maker (full of salt water) onto it.
I would try white vinegar poured on the walkway surface all around the weeds as closely as possible.
