if it were me, I would try several batches of water, maybe with a little vinegar in the first 2 tries, to see if that clears out the taste before actually drinking it.
Here is what I found.

Heat Vinegar and water then toss it out.
But the more you use it the less you’ll taste the plastic.
I clean mine with vinegar then rinse well.
Put vinegar through it, rinse and try it out, repeat the vinegar if needed.
Vinegar will remove the pastic taste. You might need to repeat the process depending on how bad the plastic smell is.
