Have you seen "embellishments"? They can be wood or resin and can be painted. If this were mine, I would look for embellishments, glue them onto the frame, then paint/distress the frame. You can hang it on the wall that way or use it as a larger frame surrounding a smaller framed print. You could also add wire from side to side and use mini-clothes pins to hang photos. Look up furniture embellishments or furniture appliques.
Here is a mirror with embellishments attached. They come in many sizes and price points
Spray paint the frame with a crackle paint. Next from Walmart purchase a cheap thumbtack board, remove the plastic frame, then purchase fabric to your liking. Glue the fabric to the tack board with white glue, elmer's. Spray the frame, insert the tack board. You can use it for family photos, greeting cards or special events. Should not cost more than $20. Happy home project.
Spray paint the whole frame in a color you like. Choose one of your collections and hang an add number of items, or another pleasing arrangement, directly on the wall but inside the frame. For instance, use Command hooks for antique hankies, county fair prizes, or small picture frames. Use studded hooks for souvenir coffee mugs, old padlocks, or wigs. Add a placard describing the collection, like an art gallery does. Best wishes ☺️
Spray paint it based on you own style and inset a print or a keepsake
besides the suggestions you have already received you could buy a large print and put it in the frame with no glass. You could also get a piece of glass cut at a local hardware store. . .this is the least expensive way to get glass. You could hang a grouping of smaller framed pieces within the frame. You could put a piece of hardware cloth in it and hang kitchen utensils on the hardware cloth. Or jewelry. This is the hardware wire.
I had an old frame and ended up putting in on the wall so it framed a lamp that was attached to the wall.
You can just wipe it down well, and spray paint it the color you want.
Spray paint it a color that you will enjoy. If you want to reaccent the carved details use a rubnbuff in a contrasting color.
I didnt care for gold either, years ago my new construction was brushed nickel
( chandelier door knobs faucets ) so I redid my frame in the pewter tones first spray paint and then some washes speckling and sealer and some rub and buff highlights
Me too, almost embarrasing collection of dog art and statues. I hope you can refurb your frame to your asthetic— truthfully repurposed frames-its one of the best second hand deals that I invest in...and make my art -fit it.
Best wishes in your decorating adventures!
Paint it if you want. String cord like clothes lines and hang pictures with mini clips. Or use it in a litchen. Add a back and put hooks. Your measuring spoons/cups can then be the art
All good suggestions. My thoughts lean toward painting it and hanging a wreath in the center. The wreath can change per season or holiday.
Get a foam cor board cut to fit frame make copies of photos of family friends and pets decopodge on foam core and install into frame.
Hi there, you can hang it on the wall a is and then hang smaller prints, pictures, and frames inside.
Cut a piece of plywood for the inside and cover it with chalk board paint. It comes in green or black. Chalk paint the frame and add a little antiquing wax or scuff some paint to reveal a little of the brown underneath. Turn sideways, add a board painted the same color as the frame. Hang hooks for keys, hats gloves etc. Mount in the hallway for notes to family, appointments, grocery list, sayings for the season etc.
