Get clear tubs and put like with like. All yarn together, all paper together...
Ah yes, the complaint of all crafters/collectors! I have to say my husband is a lot better at being organized than I am! We have loosely divided our basement into his/hers. I get the front (includes laundry) and he the back and a large piece of side. I also have a store room behind his work area. I use plastic drawer units. I have shelving for some plastic tubs, my storage includes collections as well as project supplies. My husband's use of his space covers; sculpture, woodworking, printmaking, and his "machine shop" He is both a professional and a hobbyist.
For ribbon and wire use dowels. For small things you can use jars, hangers for material. You could use boxes for yarn or wire poke holes and thread it though the hole well maybe not yarn but it would work for something.
