Are you talking about a free standing unit? If so, think about repurposing a tall narrow TV cabinet. Add an extra shelf or two, wood blocks for support; couple of doors (plywood, hardware) where you need them, if you want them. Dividers for drawers or remove them and add more shelves. Prime and paint all to match. Another option: deep display cabinet, add two sets of doors (upper and lower) or shutters and paint or refinish. I'm looking at my wooden one (approx 34" wide x 30dwep x 76" High- it would be an easy project, even has some adjustable shelves. In the meantime, try a well placed bookshelf and attach curtain over front, or even a hanging shoe rack inside a door for extra storage.

I have a skinny one I got from a friend that was ugly brown pressed wood, I painted inside and out with white kitchen and bath paint, and found some really large round wooden knobs that I painted blue to go with my kitchen. The thing holds more than I even need.
