We have had luck with a couple of things. One, we tied aluminum pie tins to stakes, so when the wind blows, it scares them (and the crows/birds etc.) Second idea, we put a radio out in our garden, with medium low volume. The sound of music and voices helped keep them out pretty much permanently. Our garden is away from the house, but we ran tons of extension cords out there so we didn't have to replace batteries every few days. It was definitely worth it to keep them away from our peas and beans!
Go to a local beautician and get them to save all of their hair clippings for you! This will deter the deer as they will smell the human scent and not bother the plants. Of course you will need to replace it after a rain or a week or so.
