I've heard of people using either moth balls in the holes, OR (believe it or not) Juicy Fruit gum pieces. Not sure if they still make the gum or sell it in your area but worth a shot. I have used moth balls. It takes awhile, but if you are diligent and get out there quite often, they do get the hint!
Moth balls?! Do they work on gophers too?
We had the same thing and we used moth balls in the tunnels. It finally got rid of them. Everytime we use mulch we get them.
My brother swears by little windmills and other wind powered things that you stick into the ground. Supposedly the vibrations keep them away.
Put a rag soaked with household ammonia in a Ziploc bag, seal the top and then cut the corner off. Insert into the entrance of the hole. The smell will permeate the tunnels underground and they will leave.
I use a Metal windmill mole chaser. It seems to work pretty well. I've checked a few places and they are still out of stock. Not sure why.
