I would try to match it as closely as possible.
It will be hard to match your existing floor. You could sand the old floor and get unfinished new and have them all stained the same color. Or, you can do a different color. I did that in one of my houses. I had oak that had yellowed and I couldn't match it. I did a dark cherry in the new kitchen with cream colored cabinets, running the planks in the opposite direction. You have to take into account the rest of your room. What color walls, ceiling, furniture etc. You could go lighter or darker for your new floor.
Hello! Most folks like one continuous look; however, if your current hardwood is no longer available it seems you could get something similar. But in all likelihood you will not get an exact match in order to have that continuity. Therefore, purchase a color that you like that would complement the wall colors that are in your carpeted room. Good luck!
As you have a piece to separate the two rooms, you can choose to either match or contrast....it’s up to you
Go with something that is close
I agree with go close as possible, same direction. It might be clever to “faux marquetry” the old lintel with both shades to make the transition a smile.
Go with something similar in color
If you can't get the same flooring, would you consider sanding it down and restaining it to match your new floor?
Since the existing hardwood pattern is no longer available, I would suggest going with a different but complementary color and possibly with a different width of planking just to add extra intere
If you can't match it, use enough contrast to make it look intentional...otherwise it will always look "as close as we could get".
I would make the new floor look different by putting something like this (see picture) at the point it meets with the old hardwood. I would then find a color tone from the orignal flooring to pull into the new floor.
