What can I make from old polyester bed comforters?

I have several twin size poly fill comforters that are just taking up space. What to do?

  • I use them as picnic blankets in the park or epwherever we go. I have one in each car. Sure other Hometalkers will have more exciting ideas.

If they’re in good shape the homeless and shelters would love them, if not you could give to the animal shelters in your area. If they are something you would like to keep sew them together to Make a large comforter and then recover in a design you’d like,eg, colours of the room it would be used in etc. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

Ask if a local shelter will take them or an animal shelter. If you don't want to give them away, they can be folded down and tack sewn into soft pet beds.

Throw pillows. Small appliance covers, sewing machine cover, hanging organization pocket system to hang onbzack of a door or on wall. Pet coats, giant stuffed pillow for pet bed, Tote bags, lap quilts, hanging garment covers like to put formal dress or coat in. Table runners. Travel shoe bags. Cosmetic bags. Hope you can find some inspiration in these suggestions.

Throw pillows, maybe. If there are younger children in the family, you could make sleep sacks with matching pillow slips for them. If you really want to jazz them, matching pajamas would be a hoot!

I use them to put in the center of new quilts that I make to give to the poor and homeless.
