All my non refrigerator fruits and veggies are in wood or metal baskets. I have no "dark space" to hide produce so I only purchase what will be used within a few days.

Agree with Debi. I spread mine on a platter not touching, with stem side down and away from heat (near stove) or sun coming in through a window. Those I know I'm not going to be using quickly get quartered and frozen inside plastic tubs for future use in sauces and chili.
