Alocasia...part of the elephant ears family....In colder climates it is a houseplant
House Plant - do not risk planting outside.
I live in Michigan and I have planted that same elephant ear in my pond in full sun. they can grow in water.
And then I bring it in the house during winter time. It can get 3 times the size of the one in your picture. of course I had Koi in my pond which there waste gets turned into a natural fertilizer. They are heavy nutrient eaters.
The Leaves can get up to 3 feet long. when planted in a pond with fish. I had a red stemmed elephant ear that the leaves got so big about 5 feet long and about 4 feet wide. I could wrap my body with one leaf. very impressive plant.
it is call African mask
it resist sun light and can be outside
Alocasia or boa elephant ear, a type of elephant ear plant. Best planted in tropical, subtropical climates. These will get a lot bigger of you'll transplant it into a bigger container. If you move it outside, it will not survive winter so make sure it's warm enough outside and full sun is best.
Colocasia will not withstand frost, bt can be planted in Florida. https://www.plantdelights.com/collections/colocasia-elephant-ear-bulb
If you live in Central Fl. south you can put it in the ground. We hardly get freezes that last long. If cold in winter, it looks brown and dead. Don't trim back the brown parts until you see green sprouting. Best to use a serrated knife for clean and neat cut. Same with banana trees. Don't cut into the green, leave some of the brown and the cut leaves around the plants to feed on them.
Alocasia sanderiana o cara de caballo
It is a beautiful plant!! I love house plants and I don't have this one. Good Luck!!
