How can I get rid of snails in my strawberry patch?
The snails eat my strawberries. I pick them off, I put out sauces of salt, I use insect dust. They are still here.
I have also used crushed eggshells.
There is snail and slug bait that you could use.
try Aluminum pie dish, pour beer. It work for me.
Beer in a pie tin. They go in, don’t come out
Beer works great! Half buy a tuna can in the dirt, pour in some beer and they will easily get in there but cannot get out.
Start saving your egg shells. Circle your veggies with crushed shells. Shells are sharp, they won't cross barrier. Other than that use bait.
Since beer is not working for you, sprinkle salt, not a lot. Any kind of salt will do, I use table salt. If it rains, you'll have to reapply. Be careful though, plants cannot tolerate much salt.
If you see slugs on your plants, sprinkle the critters with a pinch.
Small snakes and toads love to eat snails!
broken egg shells and bowls of beer. the beer draws the snails, they drink, get wasted and fall into bowl and drown. The egg shells are sharp and cut them when they try to move over the sharp shards they get cut.
And don't forget snakes. they love fat, juicy snails and grasshoppers and almost any tasty bug.
Have you tried beer in a sunken tuna can? Bury it level with the ground, they love the stuff, climb in and drown! I now have predatory snails that eat the regular garden snails. Thought I had another type moving in and started stepping on them! Finally had time to research, no more smashing!!
Use egg shells.
Hi there MJ, it might sound silly but we have a few overturned flowerpots, with a stone placed under the rim to lift them up a bit, scattered around our garden. We check them every few days for snails. They like crawling inside. Grapefruit and orange halves work too. We also try watering our garden in the morning instead of the evening. Snails and slugs like moist conditions so by watering in the morning it gives the surface soil time to dry out by the evening when snails are most active.
