I would do them in a warm GENTLE wash with some Oxi-clean. If you dry them in the dryer, dry on low and not totally dry so that you can hang them up with some dampness. Then iron them with your linen setting.
I once had an antique shop that had a big inventory of vintage linens. It depends on what the item is. For instance I have a pair of curtains that are made of linen blocks, each block is embroidered with a separate flower. I would not wash those as I would the linen pillowcase I just ironed yesterday. Linens with lace, embroidery, baby clothes all need cleaning specific to what they are. I used to boil some things. Also a lot of items fall under the category "linens" that aren't truly linens, like Quilts, clothes etc. I have a very beautiful silk embroidered, piano scarf that has very deep lace trim. What are the items you want to clean?
you can use Ovation with is made for lingerie. So it doesn't break down fibers. Its concentrated so you add a very, very small amount to water in sink. Put your item in the water and leave it to soak for 20-30 minutes. The soap lifts out the dirt, oils and stains (i'm sure there are limits to the stains and you might want to pre treat an area, rinse and then soak) Its gentle but the Ovation does a great job but gentle. Guess it depends on the stain and condition of your linen as to how careful or aggressive you need to be to get the results you need.
