I had a five pound dog that could jump up on my bed without a problem, even at twelve years old. Do they get up and down stairs into the house ok? If they do, you may be able to go a little higher to make steps up to your bed, if that is what you are asking. They can jump higher that you think and may be snookering you if they can't get into your bed. When they are puppies, they won't be able to navigate any stairs until they are bigger, but they adjust. Like I said, my five pounder could jump up onto my bed until I put risers on the bed, then I did need to help her.
My husband built a ramp for our 15 year old daschund. It was long and he even had a little landing on it. It only took her a few times to figure it out. We put peel and stick carpet on it as well. She passed 2. Years ago and I still have it. I have some pictures of it, I will try to find and post later.
Start them young with stairs so they don’t develop joint issues later!
Memaw, I found the pictures of our little ramp for my little daschund.
I have to say my husband did a fine job with it. Later we had to put little baby gates around the top and down the ramp so she would feel a little more secure.
Ramps with no more than a 15% grade would be best. You can buy a compass at Dollar Tree. A 1” by 8,10, or 12” width would do the job. A little strip of carpet would help with traction. Best wishes with your little guys ☺️
