It looks like the company did not pull off enough bricks down to where they are not crumbling. I'd call them back and have them remove the crumbling bricks and rebuild the chimney, putting in new bricks. Not resurface the old - if that is what they did. I've never seen this in a house as new as yours. My house is almost 60 years old and my chimney bricks are fine.
Looks like either the wrong kind of bricks or the wrong kind of mortar.
I would contact HomeAdvisor.com or Angieslist.com and find a masonry company that has verified reviews.. and have one or more come out and do an assessment of the chimney... the last thing you need is for the same company to come out and do a half-assed job again.
