Try bleach in a spray bottle. Spray lightly--several times if needed. Be sure to cover whatever is underneath.
After the bleach, paint with a brush, try to match the ,(now) color.
a product called Bin. it will cover it but you might want to think about repainting your ceiling. The Bin will only stop the stain from coming through if the problem that caused it is fixed. If not over time it will return.
If you just paint over it , the stain will bleed through. I had several. The best thing to do is cover the stain with polyurethane 1-2 coats. Then paint it It wont bleed through the poly. Good luck
zinzer bin 123 primer first on the stain, then repaint the ceiling
easy peasy! use a spray can of Kills (get in the paint department), then repaint the area the same color as the rest of the ceiling. Kills will keep the stain from bleeding through the new paint.
It is Kiltz, and you can now get it in an upspray can. You can also buy the "popcorn" texture in an upspray can. Unless you have painted, OR have smoking stained ceiling, it will, most likely be a very close match. Maybe, feather your spray away from treated area. COVER YOUR HAIR AND WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. My spot was only about a foot from the paneled wall, and there were only minor specks of overspray to be cleaned away. Check with your hardware store. Unsure about a paint store, but probably.
Thanks for correcting my spelling...Kilz!!

Hi Laurie, hope this helps you out,
You can try to clean it with this solution, mix one-part bleach with four parts water in a spray bottle. Mist the discolored area and lightly dab it with a sponge, then wait a couple of hours to see if the stain comes out. If it doesn't, add more bleach to the spray bottle and try again in another area until the solution appears to be effective.
Or to cover it,

Use Kilz primer and then repaint
Paint on Stain Cover, let dry then re-paint.
What caused the stain in the first place? That problem needs to be addressed. But after it is just prime and paint. Might be better repainting the entire ceiling.
