It has been my experience that they add some acid to the soil. Popular plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, blueberries, strawberries and heathers, are all acid-loving, meaning they need a soil pH of about 5.5.
No but they do make it acidic that prevents some plants from thriving. Rake your pine needles up at least 2x a year in Spring and Fall. Plant acid loving plants like azaleas, rhododendrons, hardy fuschia, hydrangea, lilly of the valley, violets, pansies etc.
