Hometalk has great ideas that have been shared a very simple one is old bath towels dipped in concret mix and drape them over old buckets to dry takes couple of days but do add a few dranage holes in bottom good luck
Anything can be a planter! Check for buckets, plastic containers, pots and pans or tea pots. Your nearby donation store or Dollar store would have many items that can be used. Be sure to get those drainage holes!
How about some concrete ones? https://www.hometalk.com/diy/grow/succulents/diy-concrete-planter-30828739?r=1
DIY Concrete Planter
The concrete ones used for in-ground cesspools/septic tanks are nice when covered with fine stone (onto thin concrete layer).
Good ideas on cement listed above. I also like to be creative with containers or odd things you find at garage sales. Depends on your style. Old wagons or wheelbarrows. Rain-boots, barrels, bicycle sets on bikes, old bird baths, clay pots in birdcages, kitchen sinks tilted in flower beds, chairs with a missing seat making a chicken wire and cocoa liner bucket hanging where the seat was. I just got three old chairs for $9 total. I just made one for an auction fundraiser and it sold for over $110. I’m going to make some more. I like to buy hanging baskets pop out the plant and add spikes to the center for height. Economical and further along then buying small plants in flats. See picture below. My chair was different but I made it a shabby white and sealed with a poly.
*Bicycle baskets!
Love all these planter ideas!
We needed long narrow planters for our front porch railing. We made a 3' long x 6" x 6" box from cedar fence pickets. The cost was probably under $6, but if I were doing it again I would make it deeper, maybe combine 6" and 4" pickets to get about 10" in depth. Check HD or Lowe's. The 6' pickets are about $2.50. We used 2 per planter box.
