You could do succulents, but with no drainage, it is possible that you may not be able to grow them successfully without underwatering, or getting root rot from the moisture staying in the bottom. I use my son's old critter tank fro succulents and have good luck, but they don't need the water that herbs will. A ten gallon tank won't let you grow more than two or three herbs if you want to grow them to any size.
  • I have done this! First I placed gravel to cover the bottom. Then a thin layer of sand to cover the gravel. Then 5" to 6" of a good potting soil mix. Then plant your herbs. Will be heavy, so try and work in place. I do not recommend direct sunlight except for very early morning or late afternoon/early evening as the glass can "cook" the plants. You may have to try a few different locations and / or herbs till you get it right. The last one I did was for my girlfriend in her office, second story, windows south and west facing and she has lots of trees so it gets dappled sunlight. Working on a 50 gallon tank right now, which I hope to post soon!

ABOUT 1 1/2 INCHES FROM THE TOP. EVEN 2 INCHES WOULD SUFFICE.

Make your layers attractive. You can even use sea shells as your base layer. Just put them in a small mesh lingerie bag first and put it in your dishwasher to make sure they’re pristine clean. Or pretty rocks instead of just small gravel. Over your sand layer, cut up coffee filters to keep the dirt on top.

https://www.hunker.com/12522284/how-to-grow-herbs-inside-aquariums....remember plant need drainage and the pebbles may keep them to moist. I would plant them in separate pots and place in the aquarium

Once planted, do not try to lift this! The bottom could break out if it is glass.

And probably blow a disc in our back depending on how heavy it is and in shape that we are. Once you hurt yer back, it'll always give you pain to remind u that we r not the supergirls that we were 35 years ago! LOL

I would be afraid the growing plants would crack the Glass. I e had them break the sides of flower pots
