You might want to consider either Contact or Vinyl Wallpaper or Paper you can paint. Wonder if you could use Mod Podge in some way with fabric or paper?
I had to get a small toothed saw where the saw sticks out one end, and saw the bolt off.
Back to painting, Home Depot sells paint that even sticks to ceramic TILE! Less work and quick fix!

You could glue the paneling on with carpenters’ glue. You could also buy flat panels just as cheaply in the bathroom wall section of a home improvement store. You may find it in the exact height you need. You can even make your own crown molding with two narrow strips of trim instead of the expensive wide trim. ☺️
I think 1/4" drywall put over the existing walls would be cheaper than wood paneling.
