I love looking at the tiles at Home Depot. I like the small tiles
There are lots of other types of tiles, or you can look at ceiling tiles, too.
Hi Melanie,
I hear you about the subway tiles. All they remind me of is a dirty, filthy subway or dirty old 1800's bathroom. Yuck. There are tons of other choices out there from glass to metal to stone to wood to mirrors and more, it all depends on your style, budget, cabinets and color preference. To offer constructive suggestions and ideas, knowing those key factors would help considerably. I redid my backsplash this year in brushed metals and I LOVE it! So fresh and clean. Brings in and reflects the light giving the simple contemporary feel that makes me happy. Keep looking at the big box stores for ideas. Some smaller kitchen and bath design studios offer free decorating services that can help you find what will compliment your taste, style, budget and kitchen. They also have access to a larger variety and selection that will fit your unique and individual personality than big box like Lowe's or Home Depot that offer basic, see it every where stock. Keep looking for what is right for you and what makes your heart sing. Don't settle or compromise who you are just because something is popular. You have to feel good about living with it every time you walk into your kitchen and while working in there. Don't be afraid to combine various tiles to get exactly what you want. I would cut tile samples apart and rework the layout because I didn't like the pattern or combine two or three textures to fit my style. It took me a year of searching and putting together numerous designs before finding what makes me smile every day. Good luck and enjoy your beautiful new makeover.
