How can I use faux brick paneling as backsplash in my kitchen?
I saw this idea in a magazine and am wanting to try it. Of course I am going to paint the brick, white I think. But I want white cabinets as well. Any thoughts? Too much white? I do need to brighten up my kitchen

And we cut out the place in the paneling for our outlet using a jigsaw.Gina - I think that would look great! Very light and bright. You could always do a bit of a whitewash on the brick paneling so it's not stark white. More like this below. Good luck!
Might be too much white. How about a contrasting color for the brick?
Love the idea. I would suggest painting the faux brick before you put it up. Would be easier to handle. To keep from having a “ too much white “ look you mentioned, what about antiquing the brick? As you paint it, leave some edges here and there and put little dabs of white on the unpainted spots with a sponge brush. The idea is that your back splash is an old brick wall that was painted white but some of the paint has worn off with time. Good luck with your project!
I think white is always a great addition to a kitchen. It makes everything seem clean.
Do you like alot of Anacin on you Meals Gina? I ask this because your kitchen colors are always best to be colors of spices.
Mine is a Burnt Cinnamon Theme.
You are planning Anacin White.
Why do I call it Anacin white rather than Milk or Salt? May you ask?
When you do go with white, and cook anything in a deep fryer, you will then understand:
A. Anacin White.
B. Anacin is rarely a Spice found in the Kitchen Spice Rack
White is very hard to maintain in a kitchen Gina.
Yet, As far as Bricks, You need not paint these atall.
Instead, let the white bricks in the Music Room, only if you like Pink Floyd the Wall.
But for a Kitchen, select a color of the many available, that you like.
These can always buy by the square foot or even the whole panel, as they shave off 3/4 inch from one side of a brick.
Especially Historic Bricks: Chicago, New York, Sacramento...
Red is not the only color of bricks.
Rose, Pink, Yellow, Cream, Vanilla and Brown avail.
Of those, Cream, Yellow, Vanilla and Brown is the only colors of brick that match the general rule:
The color of any decor in a kitchen should match with
something found 'in the Kitchen' [usually 'in the spice
rack'].
Vanilla or Faded Cream is hard to come by, but it is indeed available, and is much easier and less costly to maintain than white.
Plus if you go with Historic Bricks, you also know there's a tale behind them.
The painted brick idea sounds like a winner and less time consuming and less expensive than selecting individual faux brick tile for the backsplash. I'd go with your idea of white and you can always change it if it doesn't look as good as you thought it would. You could measure the entire area, create a paper pattern showing where the outlets, etc. are and cut out the paneling using the pattern. Easy peasy!

Sure you can do this but just be sure to seal it up really really well so not only is it easy to clean but also so that moisture doesn't get into the panels or behind.
