Bring the water to a boil first, gently add eggs, using a spoon is easiest and continue a gentle boil for 8 minutes. The shell will come off easily and they are perfect hard boiled eggs.
If you put a boiled egg in a small container and fill it partially with water, cover with a lid and shake it, you will be able to easily peel it. Dump the water out and repeat for the next egg. (well I suppose you could keep the water in if it is not too messy) Also, before boiling eggs some people apply a little vinegar, but I find this after the boil peel much simpler and more dependable.
If it sticks to the shell, try running water over the egg as you take the shell off, that may help loosen the membrane between the egg and the shell.
as soon as egg is done cooking have a bowl with cold water and ice cubes (if handy) plunge the eggs in the ice water, leave for about a minute. Will peel easily.
Dump boiling water out of pot. Add cold water immediately. Then cover the eggs with ice cubes. Add enough ice that you no longer here the crackling sound caused by the cold hitting the hot eggs. Let sit in your sink for a little while, maybe 10-20 minutes. Then dry and color eggs or just refrigerate.
I have not tried the following yet, but did read you can add baking soda to the water with the eggs, and that is supposed to keep the egg shells from sticking to the eggs when you are peeling them. I want to try this, but forget each time to add the baking soda, so have continued using the first method, which my mother taught me along time ago.
Lenora, although I am not the original asker, I like the sound of your method, and intend to try it next time. Thank you for the tip.
When I boil eggs, I alway add tsp baking soda and the peeling is a breeze 📍
Very fresh hard boiled eggs are generally harder to peel that eggs that have sat in the fridge for about a week before being hard boiled.
Hi, Best left to get cold in iced water before peeling. or if for eating hot. Bang back of spoon on head and peel away.
