I've always hd luck with peppermint plants and essential oils. Spiders son't seem to like it very much although occasionally you might run into an exception, which only makes sense. I don't know of anything here on Earth that can be guaranteed 100% ;) Good Luck, and thanks for using Hometalk for suggestions for a solution.
If the spiders are there it is because there is a food supply for them. If you remove or kill them, you may end up with a lot more bugs to deal with in the end. They build the webs where the food is for them to survive. Take away the food source and they will move else where. If I find them on a plant, I leave them be and they are usually gone within a couple of days once whatever is on the plant is gone. I have never had an infestation on my plants outside yet.
