What can I do with this empty space?

Help! Can anyone give me any ideas on what I can do with this space in my living room? It is right by my living room door.
Maybe be a couple of shelves put a couple of pictures on the top and apretty bowl to catch you keys and a place for your purse
Hang shelves and put in books
Shelves as suggested above, for shoes or pretties. Cabinet with shelves and door for hats, scarves or shoes. Inset enough so that outside of door is flat with wall.
A good handyman might even be able to attach that door to the framing inside the wall rather than having to make a whole custom cabinet.
Shelving is cheap, and that niche had to be wood-framed as well. So, as long as you don’t store weights in it...
I would place a tall vase with a tall faux plant maybe. Or you could put decorated contact paper on the back wall to make it pop. Or paint the inside a color to pop and then hang hooks on the wall to hang coats/hats/purses in it, etc.
Paint or stain a shutter and attach with hinges to make a all cupboard.
I would add shelves, display some small things and let the bottom shelves hold a basket to catch all the keys and mail and stuff like that.

A closet would be great.
