How about smothering it with newspapers, cardboard or black plastic? No sun = no grow.
Pull out as much as you can. Cover with newspapers or cardboard and the lack of light will kill off the weeds.
Black plastic warms the soil and denies anything growing of sunlight.
you will not be able to plant if you use any chemicals for some time, cover it up with newspaper and cardboard, lay heavy landscape fabric, make Xs where you want to plant ,final step mulch or rock
I use a micture of vinegar and salt
Poor little plants. I think you need to use a steel garden rake and dig deep. You will be able to rake up most of the plants and their roots. Put them into a plastic trash bag so they don’t reroot somewhere else, unless you want them to. You would not have been able to get all the roots, but if new growth pops up, use a spade to dig the plants up. Redo the rocks at the edge of your nice flowerbed. If you need help with the curves, use a water hose! Best wishes ☺️
Now here's a concept: dig them up, pot them (even in plastic bags) and give them to friends who want ground covers! Even leave them curbside with a free sign. Plants of all kinds are so expensive these days that it is a shame to waste them!
Pit dark plastic down on a sunny day...the heat will kill EVERYTHING underneath
Hoe up and rake out as much as you can. Make sure you loosen all roots so the rake can get them out. Then put in some fresh top soil with water treatment and fertilizer to lessen your work for the season.
Next, you will want to put down landscaping cloth. Cut slits in all 4 directions to open holes and plant...do not over cut. Dig down and plant.
Then water and put straw around plants to hold in moisture.
