You can stencil on fabric with acrylic paint. An good ironing will set the paint. Or you can sew on fabric borders to change up your look. If your sewing machine has fancy stitches you could add some decorative stitching.
Have you considered putting a valence up in front of them, or adding an attractive shear panel? You could also sew or attach some kind of trim to bring our your decor.
Add a Patterned or coloured Wide Ribbon or Fabric to Pull Edge, or Both Sides, Or All way round accept top. Or Sew stripes of fabric in lines vertical or horizontally. Or Paint or Stencil on them with Fabric Paint. Or Sew or Stick or paint Motifs on them.. or Buttons or anything else that you fancy.
Consider light weight balances in a coordinated color, but different pattern. Perhaps adding ribbon either vertically, or perhaps seeing a band of different color horizontall?
You can fancy them up by adding various widths of ribbons to them using seam tape or sewing them on in a vertical or horizontal design. You can also paint a design on them using acrylic paint mixed with water and a fabric paint solution that can be purchased at Michaels or JoAnns or Hobby Lobby. You can also apply another fabric onto the plain curtains to create some visual interest. If you mean plain curtains you can use old fabric notions like RIC tac..braid..pom poms...fringe....the sky's the limit.
Lots of people are using tassle trim and pompom trims, along the edges and or the bottom!
These curtains have a border of toile fabric to match the bedspread and bed. second pic shows lace border at top of these cotton curtains.
